Volkskrant Magazine 24.12.2010 |
Today's edition is one not to be missed. At least for the photography lovers.
The entire edition has been photographed by two wonderful photographers, but one of them, Stephen Vanfleteren, is very special.
Stephen's cover picture woke me up in the morning. It is a very glamorous picture of Eva Jinek. I tell you: I would guess her name just by looking at the picture. It is so feminine, so glamorous and powerful. She wears a dark coat (I am not sure if really dark or made dark) and that supports her blond hair and light skin wonderfully.
All the other pictures are simply amazing: the way he uses the silhouettes, the composition, the posing of the subjects, their eyes. Everything is a piece of art. Even the blurred backgrounds are used to give support to the subjects. Its just perfect.
I am not sure how he uses the lenses to manipulate the depth of field. Sometimes I have the sense that DOF is given by photoshop and not by the lens, because the background is dramatic and suddenly blurred and the foreground shows still sharp. I would bet he uses a Leica. And the way he works his pictures (the digital developing) is amazing!
This edition of the Volkskrant Magazine will be going to the bookshelf, together with the other photography books. Its something to look at when looking for inspiration!
