#34 [Nerd Talk]

I assembled my first PC when I was twenty-five, with smuggled pieces coming from Miami at a time when the computer market at Brazil was “protected” by law (it means: DELAYED by law). I had someone that understood about computers, another someone that had a friend at the police office into the airport, and within one week I had a computer.

After this first PC I had an IBM Aptiva and after coming to live in Netherlands I have been already involved with the construction of something around 5 PCs. But I have no patience any more. I am a MAC user. Next steps are: use diapers and walk with the help of a stock.

What I mean to say is that I don’t have one single drop of patience to get involved with the entire struggle needed to build a PC. Not any more. I want to turn a computer on and simply use it! B., the wise husband of my friend L., defined well what a personal computer is: something you just use to achieve your task and not something you spend your time “making it work”. And to Steve Jobs, things work the same (read this interview of him, given 15years ago: the man has vision).

But, despite of this, I am proud to see Bigson assembling his first computer completely alone: a bit boring, but an achievement. Its all about solid-state disks darling…

Here a picture of the same Bigson, with our friend Vin, always present on our assembly line, putting together his first Dutch computer on February 2007.

And here, the same Bigson, four years later, happy with his brand new working computer, quad-core with solid-state disks and a video card that alone consumes 120 watts.

From nerd to nerd: it’s in the DNA beautiful people!

P.S.: The only thing I miss on having a MAC is that Vincent did not come to our house to help and have dinner afterwards...
