I have completely forgotten how it was to climb a hill. A high hill. The short on breath, the pain on the knees and worst of all: to be confronted with your weight while trying to pull yourself up. My legs were simply like jelly.
But we got rewarded with the most amazing view someone can have of this city.
Is good to have a good friend who knows how to walk on those tracks. They are not easy if you compare them to the well organized paths available in Europe. They close very quickly because plants here grow like monsters, and the amount of rain that falls here always washes everything out. We saw a snake, ants so big that they could be embalmed and very aggressive plants, with thorns as big as my index finger.
After exploring everything around, small son had a break under an improvised shadow before we went down the hill.
This trip was for me a big lesson. I had almost no time to enjoy all the people I would like to. I am glad most of my friends are doing well, living their lives with health and a bit of joy and I feel more resigned with the situation of others that are not so healthy or joyful right now.
I am a foreign in my own land and every population, or even individuals, are living their own realities and situations at this moment in life. When we are outsiders, we need to respect those differences and accept some things we can't change.
What can I say? Thank you for the opportunity of traveling back to Rio again and I will keep counting my blessings!
