AHA Photographic moments II

Abstract

Another A-Ha moment I had at some point on my photographic life.

Unless when producing a piece of abstract art or when panning (a kid or a horse), keep the images sharp. I have said this already 10.000 times. I am getting worse than Google.

I have said this here. And here. And on another 500 places.

The main reasons for camera shake are:

1) The photographer had too many drinks and is unable to hold the thing. He needs to support himself. Rest the elbows on the sides of the body (without clinging too strongly), support against a wall, hold the breath, put one foot before the other or use a tripod.

2) There is not enough light. This is what happens most of the times with automatic cameras when the flash is turned off. The camera does its best work by using the widest aperture and the highest ISO, but still is not enough. Then it starts to slow down the shutter speed. It is set so slow that even the shake caused by the blinking of an eye will be captured by the camera.

3) When using a long lens, the shutter speed should be the double of the length of the lens. Is a 50mm lens? Shutter speed should be at least 1/100s. 300m lens (without IS)? Set shutter speed to 1/500s at least! Golden rule.

Some trivia.

I am working with my hands. I need it. After finishing my yoyos, I decided to start on a yoyo scarf. A long way to go.

Last weekend was Thomas small birthday party. I've got beautiful flowers from Granny and Sis in Law. I took two pictures of them before they lost their divinity. I love to photograph flowers. I really do

  1. Amazing...reading your post makes me want to do a photography course right now! I always love photography but I have so many interests in lige that its never enough time.

My books take most of my time, to start with. Not to mention the films (and blogging hehehe).
